Protect your home from fraud – Free Property Alert Service from the Land Registry

If you own a home or property it’s important that you protect your property from the ever increasing threat of fraudsters. In the UK, homeowners lose millions each year from Property fraud.

Protect Your Home – Land Registry Alert Service

Not many people know about it, but the Land Registry offer a free property alert service that could protect homeowners from potential fraud. Over 50,000 people have signed up for Land Registry’s free Property Alert service.

What does it do?

Sign up to the Free Alert Service and you’ll be alerted of any suspicious activity on your property registration.

So, for example, if someone tries to change the registered owner(s) of your property, you’ll get an email alerting you of these changes.

This service won’t stop or block any changes, but it will notify you so that you can raise the alarm if there’s any suspicious activity.

How many properties can I monitor?

You can monitor up to 10 properties (free of charge). This makes the property alert service ideal for landlords with multiple properties looking to protect their investments from fraud.

Can I monitor someone else’s property?

Sure, anyone can monitor any property and multiple people can monitor the same property. This makes the alert service great for people that wish to protect properties that are owned by vulnerable friends and family (for example elderly parents or grandparents).

How do I sign up?

First of all, you’ll need to make sure your property is registered with the land registry. If you purchased your home before 1990, it might not be registered; you can check the register here.

If your property is registered with the land registry, all you have to do is sign up via this link: https://propertyalert.landregistry.gov.uk
